- The UN and US continue to posture in respect of Darfur, but show no signs of real determination to Khartoum’s continuing genocide. The AU mission is failing to protect the millions of people who have now been driven from their homes and suffer ongoing killing, rape, and harrassment by the militia and government troops. Also, as Sudanwatch says, Whenever Darfur peace talks get close to an agreement the rebels fall out or split up and start killing to make headline news involving all sides. None are interested in peace. UN high commissioner for refugees Antonio Guterres, who I think is becoming increasingly frustrated at inaction in the west, calls Darfur the
“largest and most complex humanitarian problem on the globe. … Today, violence and impunity – never completely in check – are again everyday occurrences. Humanitarian workers are regularly cut off from the displaced and those they are trying to help.”
- Signs, especially in South America, of the beginnings of a breakaway from US colonialism – taking advantage of the US being mired in Iraq.
- EFF will sue AT&T for helping NSA spy illegally on millions of US citizens.
