TasCCL Rally photos

Some photos from the recent TasCCL protest at Australia’s new anti terror laws. The speakers are Allison from Amnesty, Peg Putt, and Paul Storr.

About 50 people turned up, which is pretty good considering it’s Tuesday morning with no time for publicity. Not that anything can be done about the laws. It’s not so much an exercise in getting ready to say “I told you so,” as a matter of being clearly against them from the start, and a matter of on principle registering disagreement.

There are enough other posts here to show what’s wrong with the laws (search under “civil liberties” or “civil rights”) that it’s not worth going into again. I even feel rather hopeful that the tide has begun to flow against the extremely negative, fear mongering, divisive, and corporate facist politics we’ve seen in Australia over the last ten years. The evidence for this is a little scant to point at so far, however.
