Who owns the politicians?

Australian current affairs television program Four Corners had a program called Greenhouse Mafia about the way the coal industry had total control of Australian government policy in relation to climate change. The executives in that industry and the politicians in government have vested interests in continuing and extending the status quo which overcomes their common interest with the rest of humanity in keeping the planet habitable.

Also from Jerry Monaco a nice example of how much influence corporations have with government. Assuming they will play fair is just silly – why would their executives hurt their own stock options when there’s an alternative.

In this way they are like the Chiefs on Easter Island who cut down the last trees to erect self-aggrandising statues. It’s time we insisted that they stop doing that…
